About Me

I am just your average small town girl that grew up in a big family.  I am the youngest of four, I have three older brothers.  So not only am I the baby, but I am the only brat girl.  I was always the one in the family that was babysitting, playing with the little ones or working in the church nursery.  So little kids have always been a big part of my life! I knew when I walked into to kindergarten in 1979 (I know, I know, I'm aging myself....) that this was what I wanted to do when I grew up.  From that moment on my closet doors didn't stand a chance!! They were quickly converted into chalkboards....much to my Mom's chagrin...and I lined up my dolls, bears, friends, stray cats and dogs (anything that would sit and listen) and I taught them whatever I learned that day.  This went on for years and eventually the closet doors had to be replaced because the wood grain was full of chalk dust.  Luckily, my parents waited until I moved out to do this so they were not  vandalized  written on again.
I married young, my high school sweetheart (ahhhhhh.... I know, it's just precious!!).  I was 19 and a year later a mom to a sweet little boy Brady.  My husband was in college and so I became a stay at home mom and stayed that way until our second born, Nicholas, started pre-k.  Then I began my college career and went to school to be the one thing I always knew I would be...... a Kindergarten teacher!  With a 4 year old and a 7 year old that were heavily involved in every sport that rolled around, it wasn't easy.  However, I have the best hubby and supportive family and I slowly but surely graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  WHEW!!! I thought that day would never come....but it did and it was glorious! Now the "easy" part, right? Finding a job would be SO easy, they say....Everyone is looking for good early childhood teachers, they say... I applied and interviewed several times and then finally..FINALLY I got THE call.  A small town near by needed a first grade teacher....uhhhh, ok. I'll take it! It's the end of July, beggars can't be choosers, right? So I taught first grade. It was fine, the kids were great, the school was fantastic, the staff and faculty were wonderful.  But it wasn't kindergarten...my one true love.  Luckily at the end of my first year my principal approached me and there was going to be an opening in KINDERGARTEN!! I obviously jumped at the chance and stayed in that school for 2 more years doing what I love!! But one day, something incredible happened! The small town school where I grew up and currently lived in had an opening in kindergarten....and not just ANY opening...MY kindergarten teacher was retiring! I would replace the lady that inspired me to do what she did when I was just 5 years old! OH HAPPY DAY! I landed the job and was sad to leave my first school, but this place is where I was meant to be.  It was my home. It's where my kids were at and it just felt right.
Here I am...still loving every minute of my dream job! Same school, new classroom (woohoo!! we grow so fast we are constantly adding on) and I wouldn't change it for the world!! I have taught some of my best friends children, children of co workers, and children that I am so glad I came to know in our little world.

so that's me...in a nutshell...just a small town girl doing what she loves and loving every minute of it!
